Uh, thanks?

We had dinner at a fancy Japanese fusion restaurant with a group of people who know the chef. As a special treat for his friends, he brought out a post-card sized tray made of tin foil full of something lumpy and greenish brown still bubbling and steaming. "Squid liver," he said. "Usually, I would throw it out."

quite a gift in a country of people too polite to turn things down... you sure the chef wasn't sneakily getting back at your friends for some past slight? :)
