About

Hi there.

I lived in Miyazaki in Kyushu from 1997 to 1999 as a junior high school English teacher on the JET program. I moved back to New York and worked in the Japanese media and did some freelance writing for nine years. I can't seem to get away from the whole Japan thing - an unexpected series of happy events brought me back to Tokyo in 2008. I write and edit in English. I was the Social Media Manager for The Japan Times from 2012 - 2013 during the newspaper's website relaunch. I also wrote for and edited the paper's trend blog, Japan Pulse. I am proud to have been a contributing editor to Quakebook in 2011 and Reconstructing 3/11 a year later. I've done blogging and social media coordination for TEDxTokyo.
I speak Japanese. I am sometimes available for writing, editing and copywriting work. If you're here hoping for anime or manga or samurai dramas or whatever, of course you're welcome to stick around, but you'll probably be disappointed. Despite all this time in Japan, I've never gotten super into any of this stuff.
I use affiliate links to Amazon. It's more out of curiosity to see what people are clicking on than the sweet, sweet pennies on the dollar I will get if you click through and make a purchase.
